Bus Driver Formally Charged Following Fatal Caborca–Sonoyta Highway Crash
Germán “N,” driver of a passenger bus, has been formally charged (vinculado a proceso) for his alleged responsibility in the February 13 accident on the Caborca–Sonoyta highway that claimed five lives and left eight others injured.
The decision was made during a court hearing after a judge reviewed evidence presented by the State Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Details of the Incident
According to the official investigation file, the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on February 13, 2026.
Authorities report that Germán “N” was operating a 2025 Volvo passenger bus, unit number 670, traveling north to south on the Caborca–Sonoyta highway.
At kilometer marker 115+100, the bus allegedly crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a white Freightliner tractor-trailer with a Great Dane trailer belonging to a cargo transport company.
As a result of the crash five people lost their lives, eight others sustained injuries of varying severity, and both vehicles suffered significant damage.
Legal Status
The court imposed justified pretrial detention as a precautionary measure. Germán “N” will remain in custody while the complementary investigation proceeds, with a two-month period established for that phase of the case.
The Sonora State Attorney General’s Office reiterated its commitment to ensuring access to justice for the victims and their families.
