Caborca’s Main Streets
The streets of Caborca (known as calles (ca-yays)) are oriented from east to west. Most of the streets are numbered, with numbers ascending toward the north (for example, calle 5 is four blocks north of calle 1). The main streets are:
Calle 5, also known as Calle Obregon, the main westbound one-way street that continues on to Caborca beach communities as state highway 044
Calle 6, also known as José Clemente Venegas (one block to the north of Obregon), a one-way eastbound street
Calle 8, including the two-way Boulevard Benito Juarez
Calle 10, a two-way street also known as Lamberto Hernández.
Calle Obregon (calle 5)
When entering Caborca on the carretera internacional from Pitiquito, Obregon is the first left turn into Caborca. The road is marked by a Pemex station on the left and an Oxxo convenience store on the right. The turnoff is an uncontrolled intersection, so be aware of oncoming traffic before making the turn on to Obregon.
For the first half mile or so, Calle Obregon is a two-way street. However, after passing the first stoplight (on the corner of the IMSS (social security) hospital), Calle Obregon is a one-way street and remains so until it reaches the western end of the city.
You can find everything you need on Calle Obregon, from eateries, grocery and convenience stores to coffee shops, gas stations and banks. It’s a very busy street so you may need to hunt for a parking space (especially in the downtown area).
To get to the historic temple at Pueblo Viejo from Calle Obregon, take a left turn on Calle 6 de Abril. The intersection is controlled by a stoplight, and the turn is clearly marked on a sign over the intersection.
If you enter Caborca on Obregon and want to get back to highway 2, it can be tricky. Some options are to find Calle 8 and take it north to the highway, to take Adalberto Sotelo (which is one block north of Quiroz y Mora) north to 10th Street, take a right and drive one block to Quiroz y Mora, then take a left turn on to Quiroz y Mora and continue straight for about a mile until the street intersects with the overpass at highway 2.
José Clemente Venegas (calle 6)
Calle 6 is a one-way eastbound street that originates in the west end of Caborca and ends just before highway 2. Be aware that 6th Street doesn’t intersect with highway 2, you’ll have to go two blocks to the north, to 8th street, to get access to the highway.
Boulevard Benito Juarez (calle 8)
Calle 8 intersects with highway 2 on the east side of the Davila’s bus terminal and Motel Los Arcos building. As you continue on Calle 8, one block west of Quiroz y Mora it becomes a boulevard. Businesses along 8th street include Farmacias PH, the drive-through pharmacy Farmacias Express, Thrifty Ice Cream, Sabadaba Subs, El Atoron carne asada, Tienda Ley supermarket, El Faro Pizza and Seafood, and Mariscos “El Terry” seafood.
Lamberto Hernández (calle 10)
The calles intersect with avenidas, which provide routes for north-south transportation.
