Caborca’s Main Avenues

Avenues (known as avenidas) in Caborca are oriented from north to south. Some of the main avenidas are:

Avenida Quiroz y Mora
Avenida 6 de Abril
Avenida Adalberto Sotelo
Avenida H. Colegio Militar
Boulevard Aviacion

Avenida Quiroz y Mora

Quiroz y Mora is the main north-south corridor (albeit mainly south, as a one-way street) that passes from the overpass exit on highway 2 to downtown Caborca. Like Obregon, it starts as a two-way street at the international highway but farther south becomes a one-way street. The changeover to one-way occurs at the corner of Calle 10 (marked by the Las Dunas nightclub on the northwest corner and a Santa Fe market on the southeast corner.

To get to the historic temple at Pueblo Viejo from Q y M, take a left turn on one of the cross streets, continue for one block and take a right turn on 6 de Abril. Continue on 6 de Abril past the plaza and church and you’ll pass two stoplight-controlled intersections at Calle 8 and Calle Obregon and a four-way stop on Calle 1. Before long you’ll be able to see the temple straight ahead.

To get to the highway that goes to the Caborca beaches, take a right turn on Calle Obregon and continue straight for 60 miles.

If you entered Caborca on Quiroz y Mora and want to return to highway 2, you can either take Avenida 6 de Abril (one block east of Q y M) or (name of street), which is one block north of Q y M, until you reach 10th street. Turn on calle 10, and when you reach Q y M you can make a northbound turn to return to highway 2.

The other option to return to highway 2 would be to take Obregon to Avenida Colegio Militar, a four-way stop marked by a Super Pollo restaurant on the southwest corner and a Bud Light expendio on the northwest corner. Take a right on Colegio Militar and continue straight until you reach the highway. Along the way you’ll encounter several four-way stops and pass a Pollo Sinaloa, Tienda Ley supermarket, railroad tracks, a True Value hardware store, a secondary school and Cobach (a high school) before coming to federal highway 2.

Avenida 6 de Abril

Avenue 6 de Abril, named for the date of the historic event for which the temple at Pueblo Viejo is famous, is a two-way north-south thoroughfare located one block east of Avenue Quiroz y Mora. The historic temple La Purísima Concepción de Nuestra Señora de Caborca  is visible at the south end of the avenue, and while driving to the temple you will also pass the Municipal Theater, the Luis Encinas Johnson sports complex and skate park, the Municipal Gymnasium, an LDS church and some very large, nice homes.

Going in the other direction on 6 de Abril you will find Plaza 6 de Abril and the Iglesia of the Candelaria, directly across the street from the plaza.

Avenida Adalberto Sotelo

Since Avenida Quiroz y Mora was made into a one-way street Avenue Adalberto Sotelo, along with Avenue 6 de Abril, has become a main route for northbound traffic in the downtown area. The street is mainly residential, with the exception of the TelMex office and some businesses directly to the north of Calle Obregon.

Avenida H. Colegio Militar

Avenue Militar is a two-way, north-south, cross-town route that links Calle Obregon with federal highway 2. The intersection of Calle Obregon and Avenida Colegio Militar is a four-way stop. Going north on Colegio Militar from Obregon passes Calle 6, the boulevard at Calle 8 (both intersections are four-way stops), continuing on past the stoplight at Calle 10, and over the railroad tracks.

After passing the railroad tracks, the first left turn leads into the Socoada complex, which is reportedly the cheapest gas in Caborca. On the right is a True Value hardware store, and continuing on you will pass a secondary school and the city library on the left and a high school on the right (watch for topes (speed bumps) at both schools) before arriving at the intersection with highway 2. By the way, Caborca’s main police station is across the street from the intersection.

Boulevard Aviacion

Aviacion is the westernmost street that you’ll encounter from highway 2 in Caborca, and the intersection is controlled by a stoplight. The Hotel Casa Blanca and an Oxxo convenience store are located near the intersection, and there is also a police substation located nearby. Boulevard Aviation itself has some eateries, a tire repair shop and other various businesses, but in general the pavement of the street isn’t in very good condition, and the traffic is oftentimes challenging due to high volumes and careless drivers.
