Summertime Events in Caborca

Summertime in Caborca’s desert environment is extremely hot  (temperatures are typically over 110 degrees F nearly every day). And schools are out for vacation, so whoever can get out of Caborca, does.

There is a festival (the Vendimia) to celebrate the grape harvest, although to-date it has been more of a local event (a beauty pageant and dances with local bands, etc.) than a tourist event. Also, elections are typically held in July.

As occurs in southern Arizona (Tucson and Phoenix), Caborca also has a monsoon season, generally starting in late June and lasting through August or September.

During this time, late afternoon storm cells develop that cause brief wind storms and thunderstorms. There has been precious little rain over the past few years, and often the monsoon storms don’t end up being much more than dust storms.

Despite the heat and occasional summer storms though, Caborca still bustles during the summer, especially at night. If you don’t mind the heat, this is the best time of year to get a deal on a hotel to relax in a refreshing swimming pool at Las Palapas water park.
