 Winter Events in Caborca

Winter is a busy time of year for Caborca, with major holidays in November and December. It is also when Caborca is at its coolest, although with temperatures averaging 64 degrees F, daytime temperatures are rarely below 60 degrees.

You wouldn’t know it from how the locals dress though. Because we have become accustomed to the intense heat during much of the year, it is time to break out the sweaters when temperatures dip below 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Following are some events celebrated in Caborca every Winter:

November 1 – All Saints’ Day. This is also the day when children who have passed away are remembered (Dia de los Angelitos).

November 2Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is an important Mexican holiday to honor the departed. The holiday represents a synthesis between native indigenous beliefs and modern Christianity. Throughout Mexico, people go to Panteones (cemeteries) to visit, clean and decorate the graves of their loved ones.

November 3-18 – The festival of San Diego del Alcala in Pitiquito.

November 20 – Mexican Revolution Day – celebrates the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920

December 12 – Día de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, or the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe is celebrated with ceremonies, fiestas and a feast to honor Mexico’s patron saint

December 16 – Las Posadas, Christmas parties that celebrate Joseph and Mary’s trip to Bethlehem

December 25 – Navidad, the Christmas Holiday.

December 31 – New Year’s Eve

January 1 – New Year’s Day

February 5 – Mexican Constitution Day
